What is wellness coaching all about? Is it right for me?

Picture
If you answer yes to two or more of the following questions, wellness coaching may be a good next step for you:
  • Do you have one or more things you’d like to change relating to your health or wellness?
  • Have you tried changing a behavior on your own, but come up against obstacles that have set you back or made you lose motivation?
  • Do you desire a healthier lifestyle?
  • Do you deal with stress?
  • Do you wish to increase your physical activity?
  • Are you unhappy with your body or overall health?
  • Do you want to add more health-promoting behaviors to your routine?
  • Do you need a confidence boost?
  • Do you feel driven to change one or more behaviors?
  • Do you desire positive reinforcement and accountability?
  • Do you wish you had a thought partner, strategy partner, and/or accountability partner?

coaching is not

Coaching does not take the place of a doctor, counselor or therapist, nor does a coach diagnose or prescribe.  A coach will not give medical advice or tell a client what to do. If you have serious mental or physical health issues, please see your primary care doctor before deciding to work with a health coach. Coaching can augment your current work with a doctor, counselor, therapist, or other practitioner.

The coach approach

The 'coach approach' is quite different than what you might experience in your work with other practitioners. Coaching diverges from the 'expert approach' where a practitioner will know what's best for you, give advice, prescribe, or give solutions. Coaches rely on YOU to be the expert on you. A coach will ask questions and look to you for answers. It can be eye-opening to realize how much wisdom you already have.
